Johnstons of Elgin, a family owned company, has been weaving the finest cashmere and woollen tweed at its mill in Elgin since 1797. Mey Selections, the brand inspired by HRH The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay, has grown out of the Prince’s North Highland Initiative. The Initiative aims to foster closer connections between producers and consumers in the North Highlands of Scotland. It selects and sources the highest quality products from within a 100 mile radius of the Castle of Mey, located on the Caithness Coast. The Mey tartan was inspired by the Rothesay Tartan and the Strathmore District Tartan. It links the Queen Mother’s Scottish family seat to HRH The Prince Charles’ Scottish title. The tweed perfectly reflects the ambience of The Castle of Mey and its wonderful coastal location. The colours are in keeping with the Mey Selections House Tweed and reflect the beautiful setting of the Castle, with the stunning white sands and blue seas and skies of the highland shore. There is a hint of the coral pink of the Albertine rose, grown in the castle gardens, so beloved by The Queen Mother. A range of hand-crafted products has been exclusively developed in the tweed and tartan for Mey Selections.
