Opulence Autumn Winter 08/09

Intense vibrant hues and the warmest golden tones are served up for Autumn Winter 08/09 offering a welcome contrast to dark winter skies.  Rich berry shades of chianti, raspberry and damson are met by jewel-inspired sapphire, ochre, cinnamon, warm ginger and truffle.  Opulence is uniform as this dramatic colour palette, worn in colour blocked plays, fires up winter's wardrobe and, in sensuous 16 ply through to 30 ply knits, tells a story of unrestrained luxury.

Womenswear comes hourglass sexy with strong emphasis on the waist where definition is apparent in dart and rib detailing and cinching with narrow belts.  Shapes and gauges are offered in two extremes - fine gauge knits form clean lines with pretty frill trims, velvet ribbon and sparkly button detailing whilst voluminious chunky gauge knits herald a new flamboyant streak in A-line and cocoon silhouettes in mammoth-size stiches.  Huge horn buttons easily perform the task of jewellery and sleeves are softly rounded, gently flared or in superwide kimono styles.

Menswear serves the perfect gent.  With abundant detailing big statement designs command attention.  A striped cashmere scarf with spotted silk reverse becomes the must have accessory for him.

The collection is a true showcase for traditional craftsmanship and refined Scottish design.  It is designed and made in Scotland at Johnstons two sites - the mill in the Scottish Highlands in the town of Elgin and the factory in the picturesque Borders of Scotland in the mill town of Hawick.  With a 211 year old history, Johnstons of Elgin is the UK's last remaining vertical woollen mill, the only one still to carry out all processes from raw material to finished garment.
