Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Rothesay
open Johnstons New Heritage Centre and Shop

Johnstons of Elgin have unveiled a £1.5 million Heritage Centre and Shop.  It was officially opened by TRH The Duke and Duchess of Rothesay on 8th April, 2008.  The new steading and courtyard development houses a retail shop selling the new Johnstons Home products, as well as a state of the art Heritage Centre focusing on Johnstons worldwide design and product development.

Johnstons is the UK's last remaining vertical woollen mill and the only one still to carry out all processes from raw material to finished garments.  Commenting on the devlopment, Group Managing Director, James Sugden, said: " This investment marks another milestone in Johnstons 211 year old history.  Combining excellence of architecture with modernity of interior design, we have created a new space alongside our existing retail and mill buildings.  With growing business in home and related products, we needed to build a new retail shop to show these products, and the new development is the culmination of 5 years work and will greatly enhance not just our retail offer but also the visitor experience to the site."

The event also saw samples of the new Castle of Mey Tweed being presented to TRH.  The two new tweeds have been designed to enhance the Mey Selections range of food and textiles from the North Highlands.
